A total of 9 BSA members and
friends, aged 20+ to 70+ years old, came together to attempt the hike up Keppel
Hill to Mt Faber today. What’s
interesting about Keppel Hill is not its height, but its forgotten reservoir
known as Keppel Hill Reservoir. This reservoir was believed to be operating since
1905 and served the needs of the now-defunct Tanjong Pagar docks. However, in the
1950s, it vanished from the map - only to be re-discovered recently in 2014. Now
a re-discovered gem for the public, just follow the path uphill at the first
steep slope near the Seah Imm Bunker at the start of the hike, and hold onto
the ropes by the side to assist you with the climb.
I really love this hike. I
feel so grateful to have this beautiful unspoilt forest to trek within Singapore. If you are looking for some therapeutic
forest bathing, this is definitely it! Do
however remember to wear proper hiking shoes and bring along a hiking pole to
assist you as the terrains are not only steep, but rather rugged with many fallen
tree trunks and plenty of on-ground tree roots everywhere. Try to stop and not
rush the hike, and do take some time to take beautiful photos in this gorgeous jungle
environment.
I hope you will enjoy our
exciting photos taken during our hike and try this trail in the future if you feel
adventurous like us! You can contact me at BSA if you have a group of friends
keen to do this trail – I will try my best to help you plan and advise for your
intended hike.
