When I heard about the NUSBSA Walking Interest Group, I immediately connected with Connie and her team – what a wonderful initiative to bring the spirit of adventure in walking/hiking to a broader community. We love getting into nature because we are forced to keep our eyes peeled to the overhanging branches and muddy puddles… away from digital devices. We connect over more extended conversations and deeper conversations, even with my little kids aged 3, 5 and 7.
We soon learnt that there are many interesting spots around Singapore if we look hard enough. Presenting to you Bukit Batok Hillside Nature Park, our newest find!
Formerly known as Greenwood Park. In future, it will be part of the Nature Corridor that connects Central Nature Park Network and the future Tengah Forest Corridor. Main highlights include,
Tiered manmade stone steps
Visit during a heavy downpour to see water cascading down the steps!
Torii Gates: A great photo-worthy spot, perfect for those who miss Japan!
Beware of broken floorings. Test each plank before taking the next step!
An abandoned well and “attap huts”
Open hilltop: Oversee the new estate at Bukit Batok
Bamboo forest
It was recently reported that the government has their eyes set to re-develop some parts of this Nature Park. Check it out before it’s gone!
